Roll coverage illustration showing gross area and allowances for seams, details and waste

Gross roll area is roll width multiplied by roll length. Usable roof coverage is lower when the layout requires overlaps, perimeter details, penetrations and cuts. Measure the job first and confirm the layout before turning area into an order.

Gross area and usable coverage are different numbers

A 10-foot by 150-foot roll contains 1,500 square feet of gross material area. That is an arithmetic example using a commonly listed Shield size, not a promise that one roll covers a 1,500-square-foot roof. Confirm the exact dimensions and availability on your quote.

The person planning the installation needs to account for the roof shape, slope, multiple elevations, seams, perimeter termination and openings. A material supplier cannot establish those details from building floor area alone.

A simple quantity example

Suppose a measured project needs 3,000 square feet of coverage, and its installer-approved layout requires 3,300 square feet of material after all allowances. At 1,500 gross square feet per roll, 3,300 ÷ 1,500 = 2.2, so the area calculation rounds up to three rolls.

The 300-square-foot allowance in this example is illustrative. It is not a recommended 10% waste rule, seam width or installation specification. The actual layout may require more material or different roll dimensions even when the total area appears sufficient.

Send a quote request that can be fulfilled

  • Identify Shield and the required clear or other available variant.
  • Provide project area, sketch and desired roll dimensions.
  • List the installer-confirmed accessories separately.
  • Include destination ZIP, needed-by date and receiving contact.
  • Explain truck access, unloading equipment and receiving hours.

Ask the quote to distinguish membrane, accessories, freight and applicable taxes. Confirm stock and the arrival date before using a quote as a crew scheduling commitment.

Delivery from Brentwood, Missouri

Steel Skin's warehouse is in Brentwood, Missouri. One-day local delivery may be available within 100 miles of St. Louis, subject to stock and order timing. Other locations can take approximately 30 days depending on destination. Request a confirmed date for your ZIP code before scheduling a crew.

Local delivery eligibility and Google search visibility are separate matters. The delivery area does not imply a warehouse or installation crew in every city served. For Oklahoma, Illinois, Michigan and East Coast projects, include the exact ZIP and timing so Steel Skin can evaluate the supply request.

Keep the product specification with the order

Use the Shield product specification and Shield product page to confirm what you are ordering. If exposure duration, installation compatibility or attachment is unclear, resolve it before purchase. Temporary protection is part of the restoration sequence, not the permanent repair specification.

For planning before a weather event, see the hurricane supply checklist. For material selection, start with the temporary roof protection guide.

Request Shield availability, project pricing and delivery with your destination ZIP, roof area, required quantity and needed-by date.

Frequently asked questions

How much area does a 10 by 150 foot roll cover?

It contains 1,500 square feet of gross material. Usable roof coverage depends on the approved layout, seams, edges, penetrations and cuts. Confirm the exact roll dimensions and net coverage for the job.

Should I use a standard waste percentage for every temporary roof?

No. Roof geometry, seam layout and details vary. Ask the installer to calculate the material allowance for the actual project rather than treating an illustrative percentage as an installation rule.

Where is the Steel Skin warehouse?

The warehouse is in Brentwood, Missouri. One-day local delivery may be available within 100 miles of St. Louis, subject to stock, timing and confirmation.

Can Shield ship outside Missouri?

Contact Steel Skin with the destination ZIP and needed-by date. Other locations may take approximately 30 days depending on destination. Confirm freight, availability and the expected arrival before scheduling installation.

Does a material quote include installation?

Do not assume so. Ask for membrane, accessories, freight and taxes to be itemized, and obtain installation scope and pricing from the contractor separately.
